In a major turn of events for the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s close aide Aleem Khan joined the group of disgruntled party lawmakers led by Jahangir Tareen.
While addressing the media on Monday, the Punjab minister said that he along with other like-minded supporters had joined Tareen to ‘strengthen the party’.
His announcement came after members of the group converged at Tareen’s Lahore residence as the opposition charged ahead with its plans to table a no-confidence motion against the government.
Speaking to the media, he said that Tareen had played a crucial role in forming the PTI.
Khan further said there were rifts within the party and there were growing concerns of the way PTI handled the provincial government in Punjab.
“We ask the true followers of the threek to join us,” Khan said adding that he had in the past few days met as many as 40 MPAs who have collectively voiced their concerns over the governance in Punjab.
He further said that they would try bringing together all the groups within PTi and strengthen the party.
Provincial ministers Nauman Langrial, Ajmal Cheema as well as MPAs Khurram Leghari, Abdul Hai Dasti, Lala Tahir Randhawa, Salman Naeem, Aslam Bharwana, Saeed Nawani, Zawar Hussain, Bilal Warraich, Amin Chaudry, Qasim Langah also attended the meeting at Tareen’s residence.
