Two more persons died in Karachi after contracting Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba infection. Sindh Health Department confirmed 6 deaths so far due to Naegleria Fowleri.
Recently, Rana Sharjeel, 19, was infected by the brain-eating bug,” Sindh Naegleria Monitoring and Inspection team member Shakeel Ahmed has confirmed.
Ahmed said an eight-year-old boy Zohaib Fahad died after suffering in Naegleria Fowleri, too, on Sunday.
The Sindh Health Department confirmed that the deceased cerebrospinal fluid or CSF test has confirmed that they had been affected by the Naegleria fowleri.
Ahmed said Rana Sharjeel was a resident of Dalmia Society.
He said the victim family shared the details with the Sindh Health Department team that the deceased was visited a farmhouse in Malir where he enjoyed swimming with others picnickers.
“The victim developed fever and severe headache after a picnic, and later his family members took him to hospital for treatment, where he died,” he added.
Giving details of another victim, Ahmed said Zohaib Fahad, another victim was a resident of Shadman Town, North Nazimabad.
He was also taken to the hospital after he complained of severe headache and fever.
He added water samples have been collected from the residence and place of visit of both victims and sent to the laboratory for water quality tests.
