As the government scrambles to find support following the opposition’s submission of no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid has said that lawmakers who vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan will be disqualified by the speaker for floor crossing.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the minister said that under the 18th Amendment, political parties had given speaker the right to disqualify lawmakers if they tried to cross the floor.
He further urged PTI supporters to gather at D-Chowk on the day of the no-confidence in solidarity with Prime Minister Imran Khan
The statement by the interior minister comes as both the ruling PTI and the opposition are holding meetings with a number of political parties to gather support.
Rashid said the no-confidence move would make the premier stronger.
He lashed out at the opposition, saying that fear of the prime minister and accountability had united those who were against each other in the past.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan will emerge victorious from the current political situation,” he added.
The interior minister said international conspiracies are being hatched against Pakistan and directed Inspector Generals of Police and the Chief Secretaries to keep an eye on the situation and take steps for eradication of terrorism.
Responding to a question, the Interior Minister said Pakistan was not part of any bloc and desired cordial relations with all the countries.
