FM leaves for China to attend meeting on Afghanistan

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday left for China to participate in the third meeting of Foreign Ministers of Neighboring Countries of Afghanistan being held on March 29-31.

The visit of the foreign minister is taking place at the invitation of State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi.

Besides attending the Neighbouring Countries Ministerial meeting, the Foreign Minister will interact with counterparts from participating countries.

In a press statement, the foreign minister said that during his visit to China, he will also hold meetings with his counterparts from Central Asian countries, besides he is expected to meet foreign ministers of Russia and Iran.

He said that during these meetings, regional issues, peace and stability will be discussed. Issues related to the economic security of the region, bilateral relations and Afghanistan will also be reviewed.

“Pakistan enjoys good relations with all the countries and it wants to foster these ties further,” he said.

About the political situation in Pakistan, the foreign minister further said that in a democratic system, the public takes decisions.

He regretted that during the recent no-trust move against Prime Minister Imran Khan, bribes have been doled out which was not a good thing for the future and democracy.

The foreign minister, who is also the vice-chairman of the Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf, further said that they have conveyed to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement friends that the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid has decided to support the PTI.
