Hours after a no-confidence motion was tabled against Punjab chief minister in the provincial assembly, Usman Buzdar tendered resignation from the post to Imran Khan.
Confirming the news, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Tweeting a picture from the meeting between the PTI and PML-Q leadership, the federal minister said that the party would now support Pervaiz Elahi for the provincial top slot.
He went on to add that both the parties had reached an agreement.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill, in a similar tweet, said that the PTI will support Pervaiz Elahi to become the next chief minister of Punjab.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has continued to be a thorn for the PTI government with both the allies and many lawmakers of the ruling party demanding that Prime Minister Imran Khan remove him from the post.
The decision comes hours after the opposition tabled a no-trust motion against the chief minister in Punjab Assembly.
The premier too faces a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly ahead of which the ruling party seems to be wooing its allies and garnering their support.
