The United States on Tuesday said it was working with Pakistan to bring about a more stable, secure and prosperous Afghanistan that respects the fundamental rights of all Afghans, including minorities and women.
“US views Pakistan as an important stakeholder and partner, with whom it is engaging and has engaged to work together to stabilize Afghanistan,” State Department Spokesman Ned Price said at his weekly press briefing.
Highlighting US ties with Pakistan, he said we look forward to continuing working with the new government in Pakistan across regional and international issues that have the potential to promote peace and prosperity in Pakistan and throughout the region.
The statement comes a week after Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the prime minister of Pakistan.
Former premier Imran Khan had accused the US of interfering in Pakistan’s internal matters and regime change. An accusation denied by the US authorities.
Imran had alleged that the US wanted to oust his government following his trip to Russia which he believed set the tone for an emerging world order.
