President Arif Alvi dissolves National Assembly

Date:

President Arif Alvi on Sunday dissolved the National Assembly acting on the suggestion sent by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Law Minister Fawad Chaudhry, in a tweet, said that under Article 224 Imran Khan will continue to hold office of the prime minister.

Prime Minister Imran Khan sent a suggestion to the president to dissolve the assemblies following the dismissal of a no-confidence motion tabled against him.

Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri dismissed the no-confidence saying that the motion was part of a foreign conspiracy to topple the government.

The decision was criticized by the opposition which announced to stage a sit-in in the National Assembly till they were allowed to complete its voting on the no-confidence motion.
