Pakistan saw a number of peaceful protests across the country as people took to the street in solidarity with Imran Khan protesting against his ousting from the prime minister’s office.
Imran Khan was voted out of his office in a late-night National Assembly session on Saturday where 174 members of the lower house voted against him.
The Cabinet Division de-notified 52 members of the federal cabinet including 25 federal ministers and four ministers of state after Imran Khan lost the majority following the no-confidence motion against him sailed through the lower house of the parliament.
In his first message to the people following his ousting, Imran said Pakistan became an independent state in 1947; but the freedom struggle begins again today against a foreign conspiracy of regime change.
“It is always the people of the country who defend their sovereignty and democracy,” he added.
Following the protests, he congratulated the people for their support.
“Thank you to all Pakistanis for their amazing outpouring of support and emotions to protest against US-backed regime change abetted by local Mir Jafars to bring into power a coterie of pliable crooks all out on bail. Shows Pakistanis at home and abroad have emphatically rejected this,” he added.
