Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said on Thursday that the economy has been set in the right direction with comprehensive measures and effective decisions made by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government.
Speaking at Pakistan’s first petrochemical symposium in Islamabad, Tarin said that the “Kamyab Jawan programme and Ehsaas programme are not political programmes but just for the welfare of the society and strengthen the economy”.
The symposium is being organised by the Corporate Pakistan Group and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, with the support of the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the Board of Investment, the Pakistan Business Council and the Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association, aimed at starting a dialogue and generate interest in developing the petrochemical industry in Pakistan.
The symposium will have a host of experts, including policymakers and corporate sector professionals, who will deliberate on the way forward for the petrochemical industry and how it can lead to exponential economic growth for Pakistan.
Currently, Pakistan has significant reliance on the imports of petrochemical products to provide raw materials for more than 20 industries including food packaging, cars, appliances, construction, paints and pharmaceuticals. The vibrant petrochemical industry in Pakistan will play a key role to help achieve import substitution, promoting export-led growth and becoming an industrialised nation.
