New impetus to bilateral cooperation between China and Pakistan: Zhao Lijian

China has said that it would continue to work with the new Pakistani government to have close communication at different levels.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian in his regular briefing in Beijing said that that new impetus to bilateral cooperation between two all-weather friends and strategic cooperative partners.

He said we appreciate the positive comments by Prime Minister Shahbaz regarding China-Pakistan Economic Cooperation.

The spokesperson said that China and Pakistan were all-weather strategic cooperation partners and iron-clad brothers.

He said China will as always put Pakistan as a priority of its neighbourhood diplomacy and support its efforts to realise revitalisation.

Earlier, the United States congratulated Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on becoming the prime minister saying it looks forward to continuing the long-standing cooperation with Pakistan’s government.

In a statement released by the US State Department, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said “we value our relationship with Pakistan which has been an important partner on wide-ranging mutual interests for nearly 75 years”.

“The United States views a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan as essential for the interests of both of our countries,” he added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked United Kingdom Premier for his message of felicitation.

He said Pakistan and UK share deep-rooted and broad-based ties.

He resolved to work closely with the UK government to further expand longstanding friendship and take the multifaceted relationship to the next level.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Shehbaz Sharif on his election as Prime Minister.

In a tweet, he said the United Kingdom and Pakistan have a longstanding relationship and our people share deep ties. He expressed hope for working together on areas of shared interest.
