Govt, opposition set out to woo political parties

In a bid to gather more support, both the ruling PTI and the opposition held important meetings with leadership of different political a day after a no-confidence motion was submitted against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the National Assembly.

Muttahida Quami Movement stayed in focus when PM Imran paid a visit to its headquarters in Bahadurabad on Wednesday.

The premier was accompanied by federal ministers Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Ali Zaidi among other leaders.

Speaking to the media following the meeting, MQM-P leader Amir Khan said that no decision was taken nor any assurances were made during the meeting.

“We will take a decision that benefits the people,” he said while maintaining that no discussion took place over the no-confidence motion.

He further said that MQM-P did not put forward any demands in front of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The premier is also set to meet a delegation of Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA)—another of the government’s ally.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and PML-N Chief Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Jamat-e-Islami Chief Sirajul Haq.

The meeting was held in Islamabad at Mian Aslam’s residence where Shehbaz asked JI to support the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“We will remove the government through a constitutional process and go to people to seek a fresh mandate,” the PML-N chief added.

Siraj criticised the government for increasing inflation and soaring commodity prices.

Siraj also called for making reviewing the election process stressing that a more transparent was the need of the hour.

PPP co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari is also likely to hold a meeting with the PML-Q leadership to get their support.

Lawmakers from joint opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against the premier in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
